Last year Eminem helped Chrysler leverage the edge of Detroit in the Series 300 ads, but NPDs research shows that Roy Orbison is also an attractive artist for many Chrysler buyers. Imagine listening to the song, Pretty Woman, as potential buyers fawn over a new car, Crupnick suggested.
Mariah Carey has wonderful affinity with Liptons Iced Tea customers, but the brand might also do well with Willow Smith. While she has fewer fans among Liptons customers, she has strong appeal for those who know her. Rather than using a published song, an emerging artist like Willow might be more amenable to creating something new to promote the Lipton brand, according to Crupnick.
Another perennial Super Bowl advertiser, Budweiser, chose Elton John for last years advertising; however, several other less well-known and emerging bands and artists with high index scores among their customers might also work well, including Cyprus Hill, Megadeth, and Buddy Guy.
There are obviously a host of factors that go into choosing music and celebrities that appear in television commercials, said Crupnick. One factor that is often lost in the shuffle, however, is data that reveals what music artists a specific brands customers are actually fans of.

2011 has been another successful year for Miomni and Vodafone in its four year relationship to provide enhanced content management services, hosting, global edge caching and technical support to provide innovative user web and mobile applications in support of Formula 1 activities.
Miomni was chosen by Vodafone via its media strategy and planning agency, OMD, in 2008 to provide the Miomni Content Digital Asset Management and Distribution Platform in support of Vodafones first foray into creating branded video content in Formula 1 as well as its music sponsorship activities. 2008 was deemed a pilot and learning year for all parties.
In 2009, the involvement was increased with more quantity and higher quality content being created for Formula 1 as well as an innovative 22 Episode reality-soap opera called ‘Who Killed Summer?’ – featuring 6 multi-national 20 something characters and their adventures across Europe’s music festivals.
For 2010/2011, Miomni integrated data feeds from the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 team live telemetry from both cars on Practice, Qualifying and Race days. Further, Miomni integrated live timing feeds from Formula One Management, adapted them and provided them out to a FOM-Vodafone joint venture mobile application that enabled customers to see detailed timing results in real time, globally and read live text commentary.

| Trucking Collision Lawsuit Results in $3.25M Settlement in Texas Sleep Apnea Related Death Case |

In an industry first, Celadon, a major Canadian trucking firm, acknowledged in a recent legal settlement that sleep apnea in one of their drivers most likely led to the death of John Lindsay in a May 2010 trucking collision. Wanda Lindsay, founder of The John Lindsay Foundation, recently announced the $ 3,250,000 settlement of a lawsuit she and her 3 children filed against Celadon Trucking Company and its driver. The lawsuit arose out of the death of John Lindsay on May 9, 2010.
The Lindsay family was represented by Jim Cole and the Cole, Cole & Easley law firm in Victoria, Texas.
“This is the first case in which a trucking company has acknowledged a death resulting from a driver with sleep apnea,” Cole said. “I believe this will have a national impact on the trucking industry.”
According to court documents filed in Cause No. DC-10-08146 in the 134th Judicial District Court, Dallas County, Texas, John and Wanda Lindsay were traveling on I30 near Texarkana when they entered a construction zone were traffic was stopped. Their car was last in a line of traffic approximately 3 miles long.
The Lindsay car was rear-ended by an 18 wheeler traveling 65 mph in the construction zone with its cruise control engaged at the time of the crash. John Lindsay died as a result of massive injuries received in the crash.
During discovery in the case, it was learned that the truck driver had severe uncontrolled sleep apnea at the time he drove his truck into the Lindsay vehicle and he had been fired from his previous job for refusing to have a sleep study performed, Cole stated. Thirty other companies refused to hire him before he was hired by Celadon.”
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) website estimates that almost one-third of commercial drivers suffer from sleep apnea.
As part of the settlement in the case, Celadon agreed to take several actions to better protect the traveling public from dangers associated with truck drivers with sleep apnea.
Celadon agreed to undertake positive steps to educate its drivers regarding the dangers related to sleep apnea and truck driving and the fact that a driver can be treated for sleep apnea and be qualified to drive a truck.
Celadon committed to examine its operations and policies with the assistance of Dr. Charles Czeisler, a nationally recognized sleep expert at Harvard Medical School retained by Celadon during litigation. Celadon will look for every opportunity to prevent what happened to the Lindsay family from happening to other families
Celadon additionally agreed that Dr. Czeisler may use information he learned through the work he did on behalf of Celadon in this case to lobby for changes in regulations and in industry practice to prevent sleep apnea related crashes in the future.
On December 7, 2011, Wanda Lindsay and Jim Cole testified before a joint committee meeting of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations (FMCSA) Motor Carrier Advisory Committee (MCSAC) and the Medical Review Board (MRB) in Washington, D.C.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss sleep apnea and proposed new rules.
The committee adopted a recommendation to establish a sleep apnea standard which has been proposed since 1988. We are very pleased with that development,” Cole said. “I believe it had a lot to do with the creation of The John Lindsay Foundation and Wandas testimony.
Cole noted, Many people were instrumental in the successful settlement of this case such as Dr. David Fletcher with SafeWorks Illinois, a nationally recognized expert and powerful voice for strengthening DOT medical screening requirements for truck drivers.”

Whats the best way to teach high school students about sustainability? Get hands-on and place them in the role of a sustainability coordinator addressing real-world challenges. Thats exactly what happened when the 70 foot, neon green,semi-trailer rolled onto the Scottsdale high school campus last Wednesday. Set up with a multimedia video room and 6 technology educational kiosks, the Race 2 Energy Independence (R2Ei) trailer demonstrated sustainability in action to freshmen through senior students.
The most essential goal of the program is to get people thinking about energy in a different way, commented program coordinator David Slipher. Energy affects us all in different ways, but everyone has something to gain by becoming more involved with the role it plays in their lives.
Getting about 45 minutes with each class, students were broken up into groups and rotated through multiple stations highlighting different aspects of sustainability efforts of the IzodIndyCar Series, the premiere partner of R2Ei. The first station gave a live demonstration of how solar power works, followed by an explanation of home energy efficiency and a Q & A session to address students questions.
Next, students were invited into the modified semi-trailer where they participated in mock scenarios as though they were sustainability consultants advising IndyCar.
