| Forging the Native Experience for Global Business |
18 Jan |
Singapore, Singapore (PRWEB) November 03, 2011
As companies stride forth to expand into international markets, the first forays are often fraught with difficulties in languages and translations.
Yet, the importance of using the right language to communicate cannot be dismissed lightly. Nicholas Goh, CEO of Verztec Consulting Pte Ltd, explains and shares why it is both important and necessary to offer a native language experience for companies making international strides.
Peregruzka the word that could have re-ignited the cold war between the US and Russia.
In 2009, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton presented a red button on a base engraved with the words Reset and Peregruzka to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. It was to signal a commitment to improve relations between the two countries. However, Peregruzka means over-charged in Russian, a far cry from what Clinton wanted relations to be. The word she needed was PereZAgruzka. Had Clinton not been smart on her feet reacting to the potentially-fatal situation with her charismatic charm and gregarious personality, relations may not be as rosy between these two countries now.
When messages get lost in translation, companies may not face such dire international consequences. But it is potentially fatal business-wise.
Yet, that doesnt mean sticking to the safest route of bulldozing your way into new markets with the most common language English.
Perennial Problem #1: Sticking to the Universal
In a recent survey conducted by global business service company TransPerfect that polled more than 200 executives and shoppers from the United States, France, Germany, Sweden, Japan and other nations, more than 50% of shoppers would terminate their shopping if they did not comprehend the language used on the websites. Alternatively, the will also resort to using manual or browser-based translations, which will decrease the experience of the customers.
Alarmingly the same survey revealed that only 19% of corporate executives view proper translations as a priority and 64% were unsure whether doing so would be beneficial for the company. Contrasting this to a European Commission survey published in May 2011, 42% of the polled population indicated that they would not buy products outside their own language.
Evidently, huge losses in potential revenues are being incurred by many companies.
Language can be considered the most crucial means for putting across a point. And communicating with customers in the right language definitely has its benefits for any company: it promotes understanding of the customer benefits; connects the shopper with the company; and companies can express fully and correctly what they have to offer.
To sweeten the deal further, 9 out of 10 European shoppers surveyed prefer to visit a website in their native language, and 63% of shoppers polled by TransPerfect expressed increased inclination to purchase if they found the website to be in their native language.
Perennial Problem #2: Economising with the Basic
Equally important is the correct translation and usage of the language. Often companies turn to browser-based applications or hire personnel trained in the foreign language to do translations. However, it is always best to entrust key information, such as Websites, Press Releases, Advertising Slogans, Product Information, White Papers and Archived Records, in the hands of a native speaker working as a professional translator. Not doing so has its pitfalls.
In the 1990s, the famous and wildly-successful Got Milk? campaign initiated by the US Dairy Association took the US by storm, increasing awareness and consumption of cows milk tremendously. However, when attempting to venture into its neighbouring market of Mexico, the translation turned out to be Are you lactating? Not surprisingly, it did not sit very well with the Mexicans and the advertising campaign was not very successful, to say the least.
With regional dialects, colloquial speech and specific cultural innuendoes still to be taken into account, companies are starting to scratch the surface of what it takes to provide an effective native language experience for its target audience. All these simply emphasise the necessity to have proper and effective translations when one is targeting customers overseas.
Providing the Local Experience
In order to provide the native language experience and reap the benefits of it, there are a few things that must be taken into account.

New Bern, NC (PRWEB) November 07, 2011
Wheatstone Corporation has just released a 22-page white paper offering advice from 26 processing experts, in an effort to help radio stations enhance their relationships with listeners through better use of audio processing technology. According to Wheatstone VP Andrew Calvanese, Because audio processing is such a subjective topic, we asked a wide variety of individuals to contribute to this educational project.
The first section of the white paper offers basic tips for more successful processing. For example, Gary Kline, Vice President of Corporate Engineering & IT at Cumulus Broadcasting, recommends listening before making important processing adjustments. He suggests listening on many different radios in cars, studios, and at home, and even taking a trip to a store that sells boom boxes to listen on some of them. In another tip, retired engineer Gordon S. Carter suggests that while it is good to have a panel of advisors offer their opinions on processing, it is important that only one person be in charge of the final decisions.
Because the first consideration of processing is almost always the programming format, the next section offers advice for the seven groups of formats having similar processing characteristics:

| Discovery Science Center Hosts Blockbuster Exhibit Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination Lands in Orange County |
8 Jan |

Santa Ana, CA (PRWEB) November 09, 2011
Imagine a world with humanoid robots translating languages, landspeeders whizzing down the highway, and X-Wing Fighters protecting the skies. Could these technologies, limited only to the fantasy worlds of Star Wars, actually become a reality? Beginning Friday, November 18, Discovery Science Center will host an out-of-this-world exhibit, Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination. Developed by the Museum of Science in collaboration with Lucasfilm Ltd., the exhibit explores the fantasy technologies depicted in the Star Wars films, the real science behind them, and the current research that may someday lead to remarkable real-life versions of the technologies seen in the film series.
With support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), presented by Bose Corporation and locally sponsored by Microsemi Corporation, Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination is the first exhibition to display costumes and props from all six Star Wars films with real-world technologies. The exhibit includes extensive video interviews with filmmakers, scientists and engineers; and hands-on components, including two large Engineering Design Labs, where visitors can build and test their own speeders and robots.
Now days, technology seems to be changing minute by minute, says Joe Adams, President of Discovery Science Center. Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination will give visitors an opportunity to experience some of these amazing technological innovations created for a fantasy world, with real life applications.
ENGINEERING DESIGN LABSIMAGINE, BUILD, AND TEST
Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination has two main theme areas. Getting Around focuses on transportation in the films as well as new and future modes of travel. The Robots and People section looks at the relationship between robots and humans on screen and in the real world.
Within each of the two main theme areas of the exhibition, there are Engineering Design Labs (EDL) where visitors are presented with engineering challenges. For example, in the Getting Around theme area, where Luke Skywalkers Landspeeder from Episode IV is on exhibit, visitors are asked How would you build a maglev car like Lukes Landspeeder? Videos of real-world speeders and maglev trains in use around the world, coupled with accounts from the engineers who design them, help visitors explore the facets of each technology involved in creating a floating vehicle. Visitors can climb into a real world hovercraft and levitate for a few moments to feel what the next mode of mass transit might be like. Next, visitors can begin to develop a levitating vehicle using magnets and LEGOs supplied in the Design Lab. The EDL process gives exhibit-goers an opportunity to imagine, create, and evaluate real-world technologies. In the case of creating a maglev car like the Landspeeder, visitors build a floating speeder then test the vehicles they created by propelling them along a magnetic track.
At the Robots and People section, visitors will see displays of Star Wars robots like C-3PO and R2-D2. Robot-enthusiasts can try to make a robot walk, test a robot that balances on two wheels, and even design facial expressions for an emotional robot. They can also explore the link between robotics and medicine. Medical researchers are adapting roboticists designs to modern prosthetics. They are seeking new ways to integrate technology into the human bodyreplacing lost or damaged functions through complex implant systems, tapping signals directly from the brain to control a computer, and melding metal, tissue, and bone in the newest prosthetics. Modern prosthetics look much like the interesting medical technologies seen in Star Wars. Alongside Luke and Anakins prosthetic hands and a Darth Vader costume, will be real-world robotic legs, and neural and muscular implants that may allow people increased mobility.
Once visitors have had a chance to explore fantasy and real-world robots, they can try building a droid. At the Robots and People EDL, the challenge is How would you design a robot like R2-D2? Activities focus on robot mobility, perception, and cognition. Visitors can choose from a variety of wheels and sensors, and by following simple instructions, program their robot to navigate through the droid factory.
Graphics, artifacts, and interactive video components will bring visitors up to date on the latest research efforts related to specific technological challenges outlined in each EDL. For each challenge, the components will be designed and grouped to engage visitors to inquire what, how, and whyessential questions to build technological literacy.
TATOOINE, KASHYYYK, CORUSCANT, HOTH THE WORLDS OF STAR WARS
From harsh deserts to underwater cities and the forest world, visitors can explore some of the unique environments seen in the Star Wars films at freestanding displays integrated throughout the exhibit. Costumes from each of the Star Wars worlds will demonstrate how the environment shaped the look of the Star Wars characters. It will also show visitors how people on Earth, similar to those on screen, adapt according to their surroundings. Some of the colorful costumes on display include Wookiees from Kashyyyk, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin and Yoda from Coruscant, a snowtrooper from Hoth, and a Jawa, from Tatooine.
EXPERIENCE HYPERSPACE
A full-size replica of the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon from Episode IV provides a jump to lightspeed experience for small groups of visitors at a time. In a four and-a-half-minute trip to the edge of the Universe, the multimedia presentation explores what it would take to exceed the speed of light and what weve learned about our own galaxy. Featuring a proprietary sound system from Bose Corporation, the recreated cockpit presents the technologies of 3Space audio systems, providing visitors with a realistic three-dimensional audio experience.
Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination is the largest traveling exhibit in the history of Discovery Science Center and is over three times the size of a normal DSC display. We have had to expand our own universe here at DSC, explains Adams. Two brand new, never before seen viewing galleries have been created to house the incredible experience.
ADMISSIONS
Tickets are now on sale for Discovery Science Center members and general admission guests. Tickets are $ 8 online and $ 10 at the door, in addition to general admission to the Science Center. Advance ticket reservations are recommended. For more information about the exhibit, special events, online ticket sales and more, visit http://www.discoverycube.org/starwars.

A Geek Gift stimulates the mind, but does so in a way that is entertaining. Whats more, they are often unique. Buying a Geek Gift greatly reduces the risk you will be giving a gift the person already has.

| New Yamaha CFX Concert Grand Piano Provides Crown Jewel of Lone Star College-Kingwood Music Program |
27 Dec |

Kingwood, Texas (PRWEB) November 17, 2011
As Lone Star College-Kingwood completed construction of a state-of-the-art, 23,000 square-foot Music Instructional Building, it became clear that this exceptional facility warranted a new piano on par with the buildings exquisite new recital hall. Lone Stars Todd Miller, DMA, Chair, Visual and Performing Arts, and Jay Whatley, Associate Professor of Music, were tasked with selecting a concert grand that would exceed expectations.
After traveling the country to review and evaluate the full complement of concert grand offerings on the market, the choice became clear: Miller and Whatley selected the Yamaha CFX concert grand piano, initially introduced to them by long-time Yamaha retailer Sherman Clay of Houston.
I place the CFX in a different category, states Miller. Simply put, the purchase shows that we are serious about our music program, according to Whatley. Its a pretty amazing instrument.
Introduced in January 2010 in the United States, the nine-foot CFX is Yamahas flagship concert grand model. Incorporating the sum total of Yamahas piano manufacturing expertise and technology, the new model replaces the acclaimed CFIIIS concert grand piano. In addition to drawing on its 108-year heritage of manufacturing the worlds finest pianos, the instrument represents 19 years of research and development conducted by Yamaha craftsmen, designers and engineers to create this extraordinary handcrafted instrument. The process culminated with a series of top-secret, in-depth evaluation sessions conducted in New York, Paris and Tokyo with top artists and Yamaha artist services over the last few years.
The CFX has begun to make its mark on concert stages around the world. Several distinguished pianists have won prestigious competitions playing the CFX, including the Choongang Competition (Korea), the Paderewski Competition (Poland), the Frederic Chopin International Piano Competition (Warsaw), the National Chopin Piano Competition (Miami) and the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition (Japan).
Whatley notes, There is an ease about playing it that is extremely rare. Its like driving a finely-tuned sports car. You barely touch the pedal and the steering wheel and it responds. The CFX offers the perfect balance – it enables me to control what I do and yet have clarity in the sound.
Whatley, who coordinates the Applied Keyboard, Class Piano & Theory Programs, notes that the CFX empowers pianists to give voice to the finest, most subtle tones and details. I played Debussy super softly and I could hear everything I was doing, he said. Its almost as if I think about it and the piano does it. Its almost like its tied to my mind.
The new, 120-seat recital hall will offer students and the community a performance space complete with an exemplary acoustic environment for recitals, small ensemble performances, meetings and other events. Beyond the recital hall, state-of-the-art rehearsal classroom, practice rooms and a Clavinova piano lab, the 23,000 square foot facility is also the new home to several music groups such as the Kingwood Chorale and Chamber Orchestra, the Kingwood Big Band, the Kingwood Community Band and the Kingwood Pops Orchestra, as well as numerous student ensembles.
Yamaha didnt just seek to make a sale, they wanted the instrument in a quality environment and they view it as a partnership, wanting to ensure that we would also be the right fit for the instrument, continued Miller. Yamaha is more flexible and more collaborative than other manufacturers weve dealt with.
Whatley concurs. When we met with the Yamaha folks in New York it was very comfortable. It felt relaxed and non-pretentious. That’s Yamahas Corporate Culture. They were as interested in us as we were of them.
Beyond quality instruments, the college has been impressed with the high quality of service and support, which has spanned the entire sales cycle and life of the instruments. Our sales contact, Chris Hepp, was completely focused on our needs and how they could best serve us, added Whatley.
Given the schools close proximity to the airport, the CFX will serve as a de facto display for schools in the area and it will also be made available for area artists or academics that wish to play it.
For Lone Star-Kingwoods part, they appreciated focusing on a relationship with a single vendor, according to Whatley. The CFX is the crown jewel of an already sweet deal that included fabulous band & orchestral instruments, as well as high quality, durable, P22 practice pianos that last and hold their tune forever.
According to Yamaha Institutional Sales Manager David Pocock, The Lone Star Kingwood Yamaha relationship exemplifies our customer-centric approach to institutions, which places the schools needs first. We have found a wonderful partnership with Lone Star College,” notes Pocock. Yamaha is the only musical instrument manufacturer that can address an institutions full range of musical needs and disciplines. Were likewise thrilled that Lone Star will serve as a regional hub enabling music aficionados not only to hear this instrument, but to play it.
According to Miller, Houston is a city with so much fantastic music and we find it tremendously gratifying to have this instrument. The CFX has so much community support and it inspires students to bring their top game. It speaks highly of the whole institution. In the end, music wins.
About Lone Star College
Known for its innovation and its visionary thinking, Lone Star College System is the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area and the fastest growing community college system in Texas. | Temecula Mazda Announces New Regenerative Braking System for Mazda Vehicles |
4 Dec |

Temecula, CA (PRWEB) December 03, 2011
Mazda is making a mark in the automotive industry by continually releasing new, groundbreaking technology. At John Hine Temecula Mazda, the premier Mazda dealership in Temecula, CA, preparations are being made for the newest of these technologies – a breakthrough regenerative braking system.
The new braking system, which Mazda has labeled the i-ELOOP, uses a capacitor to store large volumes of electricity that will help power the electronic components and improve fuel economy by approximately 10 percent. The i-ELOOP actually converts kinetic energy produced as the vehicle decelerates into electricity that it will use to power internal units such as the climate control, audio system and other electronics.
While regenerative braking has been used in hybrid vehicles, Mazdas system is different as it does not require a large electric motor and battery as hybrid systems do. Instead, the iELOOP uses a 12-25 volt variable voltage alternator, low-resistance capacitor and a DC/DC converter. The system begins collecting energy as soon as the driver begins to decelerate, which it then stores for other uses, making the vehicle more efficient.
Mazdas newest technology will begin appearing on new Mazda cars in Temecula, CA in 2012. This innovation goes hand-in-hand with Mazdas Skyactiv Technology, which strives to improve overall efficiency and performance in all Mazda vehicles.
Temecula Mazda has a large variety of Mazda cars in Temecula, CA. They can be reached at 866-204-0278.

| BurnAware Line of Disc Burning Software for Home and Professional Use |
19 Nov |

(PRWEB) November 23, 2011
Burnaware Technologies proudly announces the release of its new line of disc burning tools intended for all categories of users from novices to professionals dealing with disc burning on a daily basis. The product line currently consists of three products: Free, Home and Pro editions. The free version of the program is the core of the line and offers most of its features. Home and Pro editions feature several additional functions that allow users to facilitate certain typical tasks, such as disc-to-disc copying and multi-drive burning.
BurnAware Free is a full-fledged disc burning solution offering a complete set of features necessary for creating CD, DVD and Blu-Ray (BD) discs with data, music and video. The program fully supports the creation of multisession and bootable CDs and DVDs, creation of high-quality Audio CDs from MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG and FLAC music collections, burning of disc images and creation of backup ISO images of any discs.
The data burning capabilities of the program encompass full support of CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, BD-R/RE and DVD-RAM media (including high-capacity double-layer discs) and support of UDF, Bridge and ISO9660 file systems (including Joliet Unicode extensions). BurnAware Free is capable of creating bootable CD and DVD discs using configurable El Torito options: emulation type, sectors, platform type, load segment and boot message.
BurnAware Free is also an efficient tool for ISO image creation and burning, creation of DVD Video, MP3 CD/DVD and Audio CD discs that can be played on any compatible hardware, from home audio systems to car A/V centers.
The paid Home version of BurnAware offers the same functionality as the free edition, but is also capable of quickly creating exact copies of CD, DVD and Blu-Ray BD discs, as well as recovering files from different disc sessions and extracting tracks from Audio CDs.
The most complete version, BurnAware Pro, includes the features of the Free and Home editions and allows users to burn several discs at once using any number of drives installed in or connected to the system.
Our initial idea was to create a compact and easy to use tool, a kind of a ‘one size fits all’ solution for disc burning that would have nearly all the blows and whistles of the most advanced solutions on the market and yet be small and affordable. We ended up segmenting the product and splitting its functionality between three editions, the free one being the most functional. I hope our clients will appreciate our efforts and will like the intuitiveness of the burning process in BurnAware, says Val Gittes, the Lead Developer of the program.
All BurnAware solutions are compatible with major Windows versions (Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7 (32 and 64-bit) and do not require the .NET framework to be installed.
Pricing and Availability
BurnAware Free can be downloaded and used free of charge without any limitations. Home and Pro versions cost $ 29.95 and $ 39.95, respectively. Additional license options include free lifetime upgrades for Home ($ 89.95) and Pro ($ 119.95) versions. Customers interested in obtaining enterprise-level licenses can contact the developers directly for a quote for business (up to 300 users) and corporate (up to 5000 users) licensing options. Both of them are supplied with a digitally signed MSI installer and come with 1 year of free upgrades.
